Birmingham Weekender is to return in August 2024 with free performances on streets, in squares and shopping centres and even the sky above the city.
One of the highlights will be UK-based Gorilla Circus’s Unity, a “large-scale spectacular including hair-hanging artists, dance trapeze and high-wire walks”.
Birmingham Weekender will be produced by the city’s Hippodrome in partnership with the shopping area Bullring and Grand Central. Jon Gilchrist, the Hippodrome’s artistic director and chief executive, said, “Birmingham Weekender is a joyous celebration; I know from experience that Weekender provides magical memories that last a lifetime.
“This year we’ll celebrate the city’s rich culture, shine a spotlight on our own region’s talent and welcome artists from across the UK and further afield and in the process create some goosebumps moments for everyone who joins us.”
Birmingham Weekender, which is free to attend, will run from Friday 23 until Monday 26 August. The full programme will be published later.
