The 39 Steps returns to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal from Tuesday to Saturday and in the Studio from Wednesday to Saturday Less Is More presents Miss Crispy 1988.

At Northern Stage Blue Remembered Hills continues until Saturday in Stage 1 whilst in Stage 2 Newcastle University Theatre Society presents a two day drama festival on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thriller Live is at Sunderland Empire from Monday to Saturday.

On Thursday Staggered comes to Arts Centre Washington.

This week’s SunFest performances from the Performing Arts Department of Sunderland University include Martin Crimp’s Attempts on Her Life on Thursday and Friday.

The Berwick International Dance Festival runs at The Maltings from Wednesday to Sunday and includes Swinging at the Cotton Club on Wednesday, Dance Ihayami on Wednesday and EDge 2013 on Saturday.

The Gruffalo's Child comes to Billingham Forum on Friday and Saturday (day-time performances).

A BAC Scratch and an Arnolfini We Live Here commission, Love Letters Straight from Your Heart by Uninvited Guests in association with Fuel comes to ARC Stockton on Tuesday, followed on Wednesday by Make Better Please by the same company.

Good to Firm is at Middlesbrough Theatre from Thirsday to Saturday.

Hormonal Housewives comes to Darlington Civic on Wednesday and Hiccup Theatre presents Rumpelstiltskin at the Dolphin Centre on Saturday.

Puppetry show The Amazing Thing, suitable for age 5+, visits the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond on Saturday at 2pm.

John Godber’s new play Losing the Plot is at Harrogate Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday.
