Opera North returns to the Theatre Royal Newcastle this week with Rossini’s The Barber of Seville on Tuesday and Thursday, Janáček’s Jenufa on Wednesday and Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate on Friday and Saturday.

In Stage 3 at Northern Stage on Tuesday and Wednesday, Selina Thompson explores black hair and what it tells us about being Black, British and Female in the UK today in Dark and Lovely and on Thursday it’s The Great Northern Poetry Slam.

In Saturday at Live, Curtis Productions & Theatre by the Lake in association with Mama Quilla Productions present Kay Adshead’s The Bogus Woman.

From Tuesday until 14 November, Alphabetti Theatre presents Having It Rough, a new play with four individually developed characters and scenes formed from structured improvisation.

From Wednesday to Saturday Ockham’s Razor presents Tipping Point at Dance City.

At the Customs House in South Shields this week, Tangram Theatre Company presents The Element in the Room: A Radioactive Musical Comedy about the death and life of Marie Curie in the Studio on Monday, Rumpus Theatre Company presents The Haunted Doll’s House in the Theatre on Tuesday, Warwick Arts Centre and China Plate present Confirmation in the Community Room on Friday and, on Saturday in the Theatre audiences are invited to An Evening with Lesley Garett.

On Friday The Bogus Woman comes to The Maltings in Berwick.

From Sunday to 10 November, Pink Lane and KG Productions present Arctic Convoy in the Low Lights Tavern in North Shields.

It’s the Shakespeare Schools Festival at the Gala in Durham on Tuesday.

On Saturday in the Department of Music on Palace Green in Durham, The Musicon Concert Series presents Samuel Beckett's Words and Music (with music by Morton Feldman).

A stage adaptation of Miracle on 34th Street comes to Billingham Forum from Thursday to Saturday.

At ARC Stockton on Tuesday and Wednesday 154 Collective presents Under the Bed and on Wednesday at 1:30 and 7:00 Little Cog and Full Circle in association with ARC present Los Muertos.

From Tuesday to Saturday the touring production of The Importance of Being Earnest comes to Darlington Civic Theatre, starring Rosalind Ayres, Nigel Havers, Martin Jarvis, Christine Kavanagh and Siân Phillips.
