Artistic Director of Wise Children, Emma Rice, is staging a world première of her adaptation of Blue Beard, which she also directs.
It’s a co-production with Birmingham Rep, HOME Manchester, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh and York Theatre Royal and opens at Theatre Royal Bath February 8, before embarking on a UK tour to venues including the partner theatres (it will be at Manchester HOME February 13–24), with further dates to be announced.
Emma explained, “I have always avoided the gruesome tale of Blue Beard. However, haunted by the regular and painful chime of murdered woman in the news, I pulled my copy from the shelves. What I found was a story not about dead women but about vibrant, flawed, joyful living ones. Here was a story about female friendship, intellect and survival.”
