Member's of the Welsh National Opera performed their first Royal Gala at Buckingham Palace last week before WNO patron Prince Charles and more than 200 guests.
On 21 June, Bryn Terfel and Rebecca Evans along with former WNO Associate Artists Elizabeth Donovan, Patricia Orr and Carolyn Dobbin plus the full WNO chorus sang excerpts from Wagner, Chabrier, Davies and Bernstein. Also appearing were 35 member's of the WNO's Singing Club aged 10 to 14 years, who performed as the guests arrived.
The event was to thank supporters of the WNO's Futures Appeal to raise money for the company's planned productions over the next few years, including new productions of Manon Lescaut, Boulevard Solitude, Moses und Aron, Nabucco, Lohengrin, a four-year exploration of the Bel Canto repertoire and a four-year series of British premières of new operas, starting with Jonathan Harvey’s Wagner Dream in 2013.
