Women’s council play to have Warwickshire tour

A folk musical telling the true story of a group of women who after World War II transformed their village into a thriving community is to tour Warwickshire and will go on a wider Midlands tour in autumn 2021.

Petticoat Council features a group of women from Bishop's Itchington near Coventry who in 1949 formed the first female council in the UK. The musical incorporates dance and puppetry and is aimed at audiences within the communities on which it is based.

The cast comprises Helen Booth, Madi MacMahon, Georgina Periam and Savannah Gallo. Writer and director is Frankie Meredith. It is produced by Steph Hartland Productions with designs by Rachel Cleary.

Part of the Coventry 2021 City of Culture programme, Petticoat Council will have its première at Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry from Tuesday 15 until Thursday 17 June. It then tours to Bishop's Itchington Community Centre on Friday 18 June, Cheylesmore Community Centre, Coventry on Saturday 19 June, Great Alne Park, Alcester on Wednesday 23 June, Warwickspace, Warwick on Friday 25 June and Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa on Sunday 27 June.
