Booking for Words by the Water, the festival based at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick has opened with record sales.

Ten days of words and ideas from 4 to 13 March brings speakers including Richard Dawkins, A C Grayling, Will Gompertz, Joan Bakewell, Alice Roberts, Ben Miller, A A Gill, Dillie Keane, Andrew Davies, Meg Rosoff, Howard Jacobson, and Princess Michael of Kent—plus about 100 more.

Festival Direct Kay Dunbar commented, “over the years, Words by the Water has collaborated with the Theatre by the Lake in hosting authors and speakers of local, national and international acclaim. This year is no different despite the floods.”

“It’s just such a beautiful place to be. We’re always given a warm welcome. It’s said often but it’s true: the people are so friendly; the landscape and countryside truly breathtaking,” added festival customer service manager, Phil John.

“Keswick is definitely open for business and Words by the Water is proud to be located within such a wonderful community.”

Bursary opportunities are available for people aged 17 to 24 to attend events free of charge since organisers are keen to make the festival accessible to all.

The festival will be running a book sale throughout the 10 days of events to raise funds for Cumbrian Flood Relief.
