World première and Richard III in Nottingham

Charlie Peace - His Amazing Life and Astounding Legend which has its premiere in October
Ian Bartholomew who plays Richard III from 25 October until 16 November
Jack and the Beanstalk which runs from 29 November until 18 January

A world première about a Victorian villain, the first major staging of Shakespeare’s Richard III since the discovery of the king’s remains and the final appearance of a pantomime legend are among the highlights of the new season at Nottingham Playhouse.

The season starts with a co-production between Nottingham Playhouse and Headlong of George Orwell’s 1984.

Robert Icke who directed Romeo and Juliet at the Playhouse in 2012 will again direct. 1984 runs from Friday 13 September until Saturday 28 September.

Nottingham author Michael Eaton has penned Charlie Peace—His Amazing Life and Astounding Legend which has its première in October.

Described as “the greatest celebrity villain of the Victorian age”, Charlie Peace was a master of disguise and an accomplished musician.

This modern musical melodrama which asks why we are terrified of crime but fascinated by criminals runs from Friday 4 October until Saturday 19 October.

Nottingham Playhouse and York Theatre Royal will bring to the stage Shakespeare’s Richard III, with Ian Bartholomew in the title role. It will run from Friday 25 October until Saturday 16 November.

Kenneth Alan Taylor, Nottingham Playhouse’s long-standing dame, will be back one last time as Dame Daisy in Jack and the Beanstalk- the panto he first performed in three decades ago.

It will run from Friday 29 November until Saturday 18 January. There will be a pantomime gala on Wednesday 11 December—exactly 50 years since the Playhouse opened in its current location.

Nottingham writer Amanda Whittington’s new play, My Judy Garland Life, which looks at the relationship between a star and one of her fans, is the first production of the new year and runs from Friday 31 January until Saturday 15 February.
