Write Back

On Sunday 29 March, Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle's newest theatre venue, presents Write Back, five new short plays, in its showcase for brand new writing which is intended to provide a platform for new creative partnerships, written and directed by emerging talent from the region.

Literary Manager Ben Dickenson said, "every month we sift through our mountain of submissions to find the five most interesting scripts. We invite the writers to meet five up-and-coming directors in a script reading session. The directors pitch their vision for producing their favourite script and the writers choose who they want to work with.

"They then have a month to make the play. Alphabetti gives them space, support, script advice and guidance from a leading north east dramaturg. At the end of the month, we showcase the results in a special one-off performance.

"Write Back can lead to exciting future opportunities, with one of the March writers already commissioned for a longer production for Alphabetti."

On 29 March, the plays are:

  • Oli Welham (writer), Matt Jamie (director): Protocol Forty-Two
  • Deb Owen (writer), Caroline Liversidge (director): History Books
  • Michael Brown (writer), Paul Dunn (director): A Change Has Got To Come
  • Sarah Gonnett (writer), Holly Gallagher (director): Aftermath
  • Mhairi Ledgerwood (writer), James Barton (director): Custard

Write Back starts at 6PM (doors open at 4PM) and tickets are £5.

The theatre, which has only been open for a few weeks, is in the basement of 16 New Bridge Street West in the city centre.
