Write Now

Liverpool’s Write Now Festival has started its search for a fourth batch of brand-new, previously-unperformed scripts for Write Now 4, the new writing festival taking place in September.

Since 2010, Write Now has staged 26 brand new one-act plays and offered more than 100 performances across a total of 30 days.

This year however will be a little different.

The festival itself will also be moving, taking place at Liverpool's Unity Theatre, Hope Place between September 17-21.

“We are delighted to be relocating,” says festival director Ian Moore. “It feels like a great step forward for us to be working with one of the city’s top venues”

“We had three fantastic years at The Actors’ Studio but we felt it was time to give the festival a shake-up.”

In addition, a new structure will see six invited pieces receiving a first performance followed by a post-show discussion.

Each will then later be given a pre-show discussion to bring the audience up to speed about the process and a second performance.

Submissions close in March and a team of adjudicators reads every submission with decisions and invitations made in May.

“We are incredibly thorough in our treatment of the scripts we receive. The playwrights deserve that courtesy. After all, it is, in some instances, their life’s work we are analysing,” adds Ian.
