Derby Theatre has been chosen as one of eight theatre companies across the UK to work with the Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme (RTYDS), the UK's longest-running training scheme for young directors.
For more than 50 years the scheme has placed new talent in major theatres around the country, giving them the opportunity to develop skills as artistic leaders as well as directors.
Derby Theatre will start its selection and interviewing process for its RTYDS placement in June. The successful candidate will be assistant director on the theatre’s 2015 festive production Cinderella.
He or she will gain an insight into other departments at the theatre including marketing, fundraising and technical as well as shadowing artistic director Sarah Brigham.
She said, “I’m delighted that this relationship with RTYDS will build on and develop the innovative artist development work we’ve started with In Good Company (a professional development programme for artists making work in the East Midlands).
“I’m passionate about diversifying the voices heard on our stage and so I’m looking forward immensely to working with RTYDS to find an exciting new voice to help bring great theatre to Derby.”
Applications to join the scheme should be made through the RTYDS web site. Deadline for applications is Monday 8 June.
