Young writer's role at Royal Exchange

Playwright Cat Jones

Rising young writer Cat Joneswhose credits include work on BBC TV’s Prisoners’ Wives—is to start a year as Playwright In Residence with Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre as part of the Pearson Playwrights’ Scheme.

Known for her work within the prison system, Cat worked as a consultant on the first series of the acclaimed BBC 1 drama and is currently working on a second series. She has just finished working with The National Youth Theatre who took a tour of her play Shorty around UK schools and prisons in 2012.

Cat is under commission by the Prison Radio Association and the BBC to write a play based on the experiences of women prisoners at HMP Styal and is working on a further play commission for BBC Radio 4 to be broadcast this month.
