Looking for Zimbabwean stories: Fifth Word

East Midlands theatre company Fifth Word is looking for young people of African heritage who are living in Nottingham to take part in a series of workshops.

The youngsters will interview first-generation Zimbabweans and document their stories and experiences which will be dramatised by a professional playwright and released online as audio plays.

Early in 2023 the young people will have the opportunity to shadow professional directors, actors and sound designers when the audio plays are recorded.

A pop-up digital installation will be produced showcasing the audio plays which will go to five Nottingham libraries in March 2023 and will then tour nationally with Fifth Word’s new production We Need New Names, an adaptation by Mufaro Makubika of the Booker-shortlisted novel by NoViolet Bulawayo.

The workshops will take place between Monday 17 and Friday 28 October at St Ann’s library and Nottingham Playhouse. Contact Fifth Word’s participation producer Saziso Phiri at [email protected] to register and to find out more about the workshops or to register as an interviewee.
