Ruckus in the Garden at Derby Theatre

Derby Theatre Youth Theatre’s first production will be David Farr’s comedy Ruckus in the Garden.

The youth theatre was formed towards the end of last year. It consists of fifty 11- to 18-year-olds from across Derbyshire who meet once a week to rehearse.

Ruckus in the Garden looks at the trials of being a teenager and includes a modern nod to Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Christina Lydon, Derby Theatre’s learning manager, said, “Our youth theatre members have already achieved a huge amount both in relation to the rehearsal and production process, and in building their performance and theatre-related skills.

“We have a really talented company of young actors who are working brilliantly together and creating what should be a very funny and entertaining production.

“The young people have devised a lot of the staging themselves and it’s really exciting to see it all coming together.”

The youth theatre is led by East Midlands-based Junk Shop Theatre Company which was founded by Beth Shouler and Loreto Murray in 2008.

Their vision is to “create innovative and cutting-edge performances while nurturing the next generation of emerging theatre-makers in the region”.

Ruckus in the Garden will be performed at Derby Theatre on Friday and Saturday, 5 and 6 April.
