Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre perform at Pilgrim Wood

Members of the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre's production group performed at the Pilgrim Wood Residential and Dementia Care Home on 18 June.

The company of 8- to 13-year-olds performed a devised piece of theatre, Community Matters, based on what community means to them, the role the Youth Theatre plays in the community and historical and local community stories.

Pilgrim Wood is a 35-bed care home specialising in elderly care including those suffering with dementia. Head of Activities, Sharon Mitchell, said, "it's really lovely and important to be working with the Yvonne Arnaud to bring us together as part of Guildford's community. Hopefully this is just the start of something really nice. We've got big things planned!"

Ellie Johnson, Yvonne Arnaud's Youth and Education Ambassador, said, "seeing the kids engage and chat with the residents following the performance was a joy. The residents absolutely loved talking with them and the atmosphere in the room was so positive and uplifting."

Auditions for the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre's production groups are taking place in July. To apply or find out more, e-mail [email protected].
