Zoe WanamakerThis week Covent Garden, next week Drury Lane.

When the hubbub from the Oliviers has died down, the next up in the theatre awards calendar is the Theatre Book Prize, presented annually by the Society for Theatre Research. It won't last four hours and isn't such a lavish affair, but since it was started back in 1998 it has become established as an important event in the theatre year.

There is hot contention between those on the short list. What's your money on? Two of those contenders are flying in specially from the US and Greece, for though this is a prize for the best of the year's books about British theatre it has an international entry.

It all happens next Wednesday 25 April at a pre-lunch reception in the Grand Saloon, which will be attended by representatives from the worlds of theatre, books and academia with some of the writers flying in specially from the USA and Greece.

We've just heard that the awards will be presented by one of Britain's favourite actresses, two times Olivier winner Zoë Wanamaker CBE.
