Alone

Alone is set in the control room of a spaceship returning from a mission with micro-bacterium that might help reverse climate change on planet Earth.

Its two characters, Taylor (Kat Glass), the scientist in charge of the mission, and Holland (Courtney Bassett), the ship’s pilot dressed in grey spacesuits, argue about music, with Holland wanting to play Bowie and Taylor preferring The Smiths.

They also discuss God and love before an incident damages the vessel and they are forced to wrestle with the problem of continuing the journey.

The actors give good performances as these two very different, confident women who experience the understandable friction of people confined together alone for long periods.

However, the story feels slight, till later it becomes an old-style struggle for survival that is complicated by the extra dilemma of whether the micro-bacterium will be destroyed.
