One More

This mixed cocktail is for all of us and about all of us. One More refers to one more drink. But it could just as easily be referring to one more date. Or one more relationship.

The often-uncomfortable dance between two people has been in existence since arranged marriages started to be phased out. The outcome initially and at best is polite banter with a possibility of more. But there are encounters explore that are out-of-sync.

This group of four actors starts with the issue of who has the power in a relationship. Everyone thinks it’s the other. As a demonstration, two men figure it out.

One of the men gives his friend a bag of Skittles and then asks, “Can I have some?” “Sure,” his friend says and pours a few in his hand. Now he gives his friend a Twix bar. “Can I have one of those?” The second man looks at his friend and then at the Twix bar. “NO!” The first man observes, that’s the difference; men are Skittles, women are Twix bars. Smart. Perfect.

One More follows two women and two men as they pair off and try to negotiate the dating and mating process. We know this dance. Men and women, men and men, women and women. It may not be a bar. It could be anywhere.

Two women and two men in a bar. And various other situations. We’ve all been there... mostly. An odd encounter that it seems is unwelcome by the women is described by the man to his mate as incredibly successful.

With this production, each encounter is a very familiar surprise. The situations can be of strangers well-matched. Or not. We get a little taste of almost everything. One More goes from “How’s it going?”, “Grand,” to “Let’s get a mortgage.”

One More is supposed to be light and funny... and it is. But it is also a bit of a painful mirror. These four actors play well together. We love it when the actor look like they are having a good time. The director keeps it clean and moving. The writing hits many of the targets; tight, funny, familiar. Something for everyone.
