The Ugly Sisters

Returning to Edinburgh following their Fringe First success last year RashDash and the band Not Now Bernard reprise their retelling of The Ugly Sisters the Cinderella story as a menacing and sensuous cabaret performance as part of the Northern Stage programme at St Stephens.

Sisters Pearl and Emerald are forced to move in with their freakish mother Pearl and their bizarre step-father with his creepy daughter Cinderella or Arabella as she is called.

They play in a burnt out car round the back but avoid the needles. Life changes when they compete in a TV game show ‘You Shall Go to the Ball’ where the prize is one million pounds to be spent on cosmetic surgery with a fairy godmother to help style them in order to win the heart of Prince Frederck.

This is certainly no ordinary rendition of Cinderella. It’s an irreverent fervent physical performance with fiery music thumping drums and violent vocals, which the enthusiastic audience loved.
