It’s a pantomime; oh no it isn’t! This is the Barn Theatre’s Christmas production, but it offers so much more than the traditional seasonal offering.

Congratulations to CEO / Artistic Director, Iwan Lewis and Alfie Haywood (set and costumes) for bringing together a multi-talented team which delivers a glittering and entertaining show. Adam Pollock has written a well-paced and entertaining script that satisfies children and adults alike, although some of the wittier moments will be beyond the younger members of the audience.

The seven-strong troupe give a sparkling ensemble performance, moving the story along whilst switching seamlessly between characters. The powerful delivery of the show’s dramatic, musical and dance elements reflect well on the work of Bryan Hodgson (director) and Reuben Greeph (musical director).

The set-piece songs created by Lee Freeman (music) and Mark Anderson (lyrics) provide a strong framework for a gifted set of performers.

At times, Sam Denia’s camp Squire Trelawney threatens to steal the show, but the other six actors each enjoy their periods in the limelight, so Oliver Aston (Dr Livesey), Olivia Deane (Lennie), George Evans (Long John Silver), Reuben Greeph (Smollett), Elliot Gooch (Jim), Georgia Stoller (Jen Gunn) please take your bows.

A final mention needs to go to Alex Musgrove and Joe Dines for offering lighting and sound that would grace a West End production.

If you’re within striking distance of Cirencester, you can save the family a trek to London for their Christmas entertainment.
