Introduction

Karen Joy Fowler is an American author whose best-selling novel The Jane Austen Book Club was made into a film of the same name.

Her latest novel, Booth, centres on the family of Shakespearean actor Junius Booth, who left the English stage in the early nineteenth century to move to the USA. There, he had ten children, some of whom were also talented actors, and one, John Wilkes Booth, who became most famous as the man who assassinated Abraham Lincoln.
