This year marks 25 years since Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet moved to the Midlands in 1990 to become Birmingham Royal Ballet, a move that was widely regarded as “the arts coup of the decade”.

Since then, Birmingham Royal Ballet has staged over 130 different ballets at its home of Birmingham Hippodrome over around 225 weeks of performances.

During this time, the company has also performed across the globe to countries such as South Africa, Japan, China, Hong Kong and the USA.

This October, Birmingham Royal Ballet will perform a triple bill titled Variations which includes George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, the first piece the company ever performed in Birmingham.

2015 also marks David Bintley’s 20th year as Director and the 25th birthday of Sir Peter Wright’s production of The Nutcracker.
