The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee - new enquiry, A Creative Future

The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee has launched a new inquiry—A Creative Future—on the effects and challenges faced by the creative industries from new technologies such as machine learning and virtual reality.

Until 2 September, the Committee is accepting written evidence on questions such as:

  • which areas of the creative industries face the greatest potential for disruption and change in the next 5–10 years, and what impact could this have?
  • what actions are needed from Government, local authorities and the industry to ensure there is an appropriate talent pipeline equipped with the skills to meet these challenges?
  • what role can innovation and research and development play in addressing these challenges?

Baroness Stowell of Beeston said, “the UK is recognised as a global leader in the creative economy. The sector is a key driver of our economic growth, and delivers huge value to us as a nation. But there are major changes coming. We need to understand these challenges better, and plan ahead to ensure the UK has the talent and skills pipeline we need for the creative sector to thrive in the future marketplace."

Baroness Stowell of Beeston chairs the Committee, which is made up of 12 life peers (four Conservative, four Labour, two Liberal Democrat and two cross-bench) and one Bishop.

The Committee will hold oral evidence sessions once the written evidence window has closed.
