Bolton Octagon will stage Roald Dahl’s The BFG, directed by Sarah Esdaile, from November 13 to January 9.

Sarah, who previously directed James and the Giant Peach at the Octagon, which was awarded Best Family Show by the Manchester Evening News Awards in 2007, returns with David Wood’s adaptation of the classic children’s book, which incorporates puppetry to give illusion of scale.

Unable to fall asleep in her bedroom in the village orphanage, Sophie spies a huge and mysterious figure blowing something into bedroom windows down the street. Before she has a chance to hide, the giant snatches up the little girl and whisks her away to his home in Giant Country.

An entire cast of Octagon newcomers includes recent LAMDA graduates John Seaward as the BFG and Macy Nyman as Sophie. John was the simple-minded Big John in TV teenage sitcom The Inbetweeners.
