Newcastle-based Eliot Smith Dance is to launch virtual programming for its winter / spring 2021 season, VIRTUAL ESD.

For a one-off £10 subscription, audiences will have exclusive online access to the full content of VIRTUAL ESD. This will allow them to either experience for the first time or revisit some of ESD's newest virtual dance works, including the Seacole + Nightingale documentary, the recent Virtual Triple Bill, and “At Home Creates”. Also available to subscribers will be a monthly Zoom Q&A session with ESD dancers, online classes, access to company archives and more.

“As we enter into a third lockdown,” said Artistic Director Eliot Smith, “it has become apparent to us that the digital works we created earlier in the pandemic, in particular the Seacole + Nightingale documentary, are just as relevant now, if not more, than when they were originally shown.

“The year 2021 marks 10 years since the Company was founded—my first work was premièred on 19 February 2011—and as a company we are determined to continue to remain proactive, despite these peculiar and challenging times. As well as our dance works, we will be sharing extraordinary archive materials throughout this year and subscribers to VIRTUAL ESD will be the first to experience them.

“Through VIRTUAL ESD, we are aiming to give audiences a new type of access to our work—something that goes beyond what we can do in the theatre.”
