Finborough Theatre under threat of closure

London's Finborough Theatre may close if planning permission is given for the building's development.

British Theatre Guide has just heard that today, Friday 14 August, is the deadline for receipt of objections to the planning application that could see the venue forced to close.

It is not too late, but there are only a few hours left in which to write to the planning authority objecting to the application.

The Finborough Theatre has operated from its Earls Court location above The Finborough Arms pub for thirty-five years with a broad-thinking programme of work, achieving much critical success and winning awards along the way.

Artistic director Neil McPherson has said, “the freeholder [of the pub] is seeking to develop flats directly above the theatre auditorium itself, changing their current use from residential bedrooms to [3] self contained flats.

"Whilst the new application deals with noise issues to some extent, we remain profoundly concerned that the redevelopment will lead to such noise issues for us that it will be untenable to continue as a working theatre. We are also concerned by the disruption that the building work may cause to running the theatre. It’s quite likely that the application will be approved unless we act.”
