A new practical manual on understanding and performing Shakespeare’s texts has been written by Andy Hinds and is published by Oberon Books.
Acting Shakespeare’s Language is targeted at actors, students, teachers and directors of Shakespeare’s work; it has guidelines for acting soliloquies, verse and prose, pronunciation and breathing and contains exercises for each. It also has a section on understanding imagery.
Hinds, who was born in Derry and who for ten years was Artistic Director of Classic Stage Ireland, has been a teacher of Shakespeare for over three decades as well as a theatre director and playwright.
He has taught at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Trinity College, The Gaiety School of Acting, University College, Dublin and in his own acting studio and held masterclasses at Shakespeare’s Globe.
