As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, Akademi will present the South Asian dance competition NAVADAL on 20 July at the Southbank Centre plus Rising Stars, an evening of performance curated by Vidya Patel.
Rising stars of South Asian dance will battle it out for a spot in the Akademi showcase in front of a panel of judges and the Southbank Centre audience in three categories: solo and group dances for ages 13 to18 and solo for ages 19 to 25.
The winners will perform on the Purcell Room stage in an evening of dance curated by Vidya Patel, star of Akademi’s The Troth. Alongside the winners will be four guest artists, chosen by Vidya as South Asian dance stars to watch: Shree Savani (Bharatanatyam), Jaina Modasia (Kathak), Pallavi Anand (Bharatanatyam) and Shyam Dattani (Kathak).
Akademi is also sponsoring a 'Lifetime achievement in South Asian Dance' award at the One Dance UK 2019 Awards.
