Three-time Brit nominee and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke is to take over the role of Rachel Marron in London's West End production of The Bodyguard.

She will play opposite Tristan Gemmill who continues in the role of Rachel’s bodyguard, Frank Farmer.

The Bodyguard is based on the 1992 Oscar-nominated film of the same name which starred Whitney Houston and features many of the singer's hits including "Queen of the Night", "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and "I Will Always Love You".

The show has a book by Alex Dinelaris. The director is Thea Sharrock.

Alexandra Burke has said, “I couldn’t be more excited about joining the cast of The Bodyguard and to play the iconic role of Rachel Marron will be a dream come true.

"I am a massive Whitney Houston fan so to be given the opportunity to play a role made famous by her every night will be a real privilege.

"I start rehearsals very soon with my fellow cast mates and the brilliant creative team and, with a little trepidation, I am looking forward to our first performance in June.”

Beverley Knight plays the role of Rachel Marron until 31 May except Wednesday and Saturday matinéee performances when the role is played by Joelle Moses. For further information, visit The Bodyguard web site.
