Industry giant Ambassador Theatre Group has taken over the lease and management of The Theatre Royal on Sydney’s King Street.
The theatre is part of the MLC Centre, Sydney’s oldest theatrical institution and one of the city’s premier commercial theatre venues. Under ATG's management, the 1100+ seat theatre will undergo a major refurbishment.
ATG Asia Pacific CEO Tim McFarlane said, “for ATG, this heralds the dawn of its venue management operations in Asia Pacific, a region that will play a major part in our international expansion plan.”
Based in Sydney, ATG’s Asia Pacific productions include Legally Blonde the Musical, Thriller Live, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story and The Rocky Horror Show.
ATG is in discussions with other venues in Australia, Korea, Japan, Singapore and China.
