Twenty eight commissions and premières are amongst the 154 events in the 47th Brighton Festival taking place in May.

Former Children's Laureate Michael Rosen will be Guest Director, a position held in the past by (amongst others) Burmese democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Vanessa Redgrave, Anish Kapoor and Brian Eno, reflecting the wide range of ideas and disciplines covered by the Festival.

Rosen said of his appointment, “It's a huge privilege for me to be the Guest Director of Brighton Festival for 2013. I believe in the chemistry of it, the way it will get the whole city talking and wondering.

"Festivals are great informal colleges of the arts for anyone. Contributing to what the festival will offer has drawn together many of my passions, interests and daily concerns.”

Public booking has opened by telephone on 01273 709709 and online at www.brightonfestival.org where full listings can be found.
