Brixton House - opens 24 February

Brixton House is south London's newest theatre venue, opening later this month in premises on Coldharbour Lane in the heart of Brixton. It was previously known as Ovalhouse with a base in Kennington and which provides a creative legacy datting back fifty years.

With two studio theatres, performance and rehearsal spaces, public spaces, and a café and bar, it will offer different art forms, events and participation projects under the artistic directorship of Gbolahan Obisesan, who said, “Brixton House will be a vital cultural beacon in Brixton and a home of creativity and expression for everyone.

"We want to attract, support, and inspire new artistic experiences that will develop our community solidarity and passion for social change in society. With this opening season, we focus on our Family Ties, because ours is a home where we acknowledge we are all connected and bound by our love of art and artists, propelled by our spirit of togetherness, whilst giving space to showcasing our creative bond and appreciation of human experiences.”

The inaugural season includes Mugabe, My Dad and Me written and performed by Tonderai Munyevu, which, having opened, will start a national tour, Pro Helvetia's Swiss Selection Live, a selection of work from Swiss artists, and a two-week building takeover by new artists, Housemates Festival.

Brixton House opens on 24 February; as well as theatre performances, it will also host cabaret, comedy, dance, and film events and a programme for children and young people.
