Eighteen local schools and one youth group showed what they could do at the seventh annual Camden Schools Dance Festival on 8 February 2016.
Performances by 375 young people aged 11-18 were hosted at The Place in Kings Cross, the culmination of months of working with professional dance artists using South Asian, contemporary, folk and street dance styles.
The Festival was funded by London Sport and delivered by Camden Dance Development Group, which includes Akademi, B-Better, English Folk Dance & Song Society, icandance, London Borough Camden, The Place and The Surma Centre. All proceeds were donated to the Iris Tomlinson Fund, enabling young dancers from Camden to benefit from the dance activity held at The Place.
Maria Ryan, Children & Youth Dance Manager at The Place, said of the event, "the standard of performance was high and reflects the huge amount of work put in. It was wonderful to see so many young people enjoying the physical, social and emotional benefits of taking part in dance. The smiles on their faces as they come into the theatre says it all."
