Cardiff's Unity Festival showcases a range of professional and community performance events curated by inclusive theatre company Hijinx Theatre.

Wales Millennium Centre and Sherman Cymru host the events which feature disabled and non-disabled performers in a programme that includes theatre, dance, music, family shows, comedy and audience participation workshops.

Highlight of the first weekend is Graeae’s Iron Man, directed by Paralympic Opening Ceremony co-director Jenny Sealey MBE. Iron Man is based on the work of Ted Hughes and stars a giant iron puppet.

Flamenco from Sevillano dance company Cia José Galán, acrobatics show Extrêmités and Bicycle Ballet, performed by sighted and visually impaired dancers on bicycles are amongst the Festival's other highlights.

Unity Festival Director, Ben Pettitt-Wade, said: “Now in its sixth year, the Unity festival is rapidly becoming one of the seminal events on the Welsh arts calendar.

"The legacy of a fantastic Paralympic games has given the UK inclusive arts scene a huge boost, and this is demonstrated by the large number of home-grown acts that feature in this year’s line-up.”

Unity Festival has both free and ticketed performances. It runs from 12 to 22 June.
