The Ancient Secret of Youth and the Five Tibetans at the Octagon

Continuing its relationship with playwright Jim Cartwright, the Octagon Theatre is staging the world première of The Ancient Secret of Youth and the Five Tibetans starring Denise Welch, Tom Mannion, Eric Potts, Lauren Drummond and Matt Tait.

Cartwright’s work is among the most performed in the Octagon’s history, including critically acclaimed productions of Road, Two, Eight Miles High, Bed & Baths, and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which played to sell-out audiences in 2012.

In this latest work, three old friends find they must ask a time-honoured question when they discover an ancient book that claims to offer the secret of youth; a mysterious series of rituals that, if followed diligently, promise to turn back the clock.

Director David Thacker commented: “it's always a privilege to direct a world première, but to direct a world première of a play by one of Bolton's most distinguished playwrights is a great honour—and an honour for the Octagon that Jim Cartwright has entrusted the play to us.

The Ancient Secret of Youth and the Five Tibetans is playing from April 30 to May 23.
