Casting complete for adaptation of Hosseini novel

Casting has been announced for the Nottingham Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse co-production of The Kite Runner, the European première of the stage adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s international bestseller.

The ensemble cast will be led by Ben Turner, well-known for his role as Jay Faldren in BBC’s Casualty.

His theatre credits include Mowbray in Richard II at the Donmar Warehouse and Ralph in Awake and Sing at the Almeida.

Alongside Turner will be Farshid Rokey (Saif in Mogadishu at the Lyric Hammersmith and Royal Exchange) while Assef will be portrayed by Nicholas Karimi (War Horse at the National Theatre / New London Theatre and The Double, Theatre Royal Bath).

Completing the cast are Antony Bunsee (Richard III and Henry V at the RSC and Godbole in Passage to India for Shared Experience); Emilio Doorgasingh; Nicholas Khan (Voyager at the Arcola Theatre and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui for Nottingham Playhouse / Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse); David Ahmad (Potted Potter at the Little Shubert Theatre, New York and The Good Soul of Szechuan at Watford Palace Theatre); Ezra Khan (War Correspondents at the National Theatre Studio and Macbeth at the Barbican); Waleed Akhtar (Betrayed for Tron Theatre Company); and Lisa Zahra (A Midsummer Night's Dream for Torch Theatre.

Tabla player Hanif Khan will be providing musical accompaniment.

The Kite Runner will be in Nottingham from Friday 26 April until Saturday 18 May and at Liverpool Playhouse from 13 June to 6 July.
