The Lowry Staff say thank you for the £20,000 donations for The Lowry Christmas Appeal

Children in care are to take over The Lowry in Salford following generous donations exceeding £20,000.

Looked-after children and care leavers will begin planning their own event at the venue thanks to the generosity of audiences attending festive shows throughout December and January. The total donations tipped £20,000—double the target—with cash, online and text donations flooding in.

Bucket collections held during the run of White Christmas led to the show’s star and former-Brookside actress Claire Sweeney expressing her gratitude to those who donated, saying: “I’d like to thank everyone who donated on behalf of the children and young people who will benefit.”

Staff at The Lowry are now working with Salford City Council to bring together two groups of children and young people who are in care or leaving the care system, giving them the opportunity of devising and managing a new event at the Salford arts venue.
