Dance New Year's Honours List

The dance sector has again been celebrated in this year's New Year’s Honours list, with awards including a knighthood to Richard Alston, a CBE to Anthony Van Laast, an OBE to Farooq Chaudhry and an MBE Sujata Banerjee.

Richard Alston has been working in dance for over 50 years and celebrated his 70th birthday in 2018. Anthony Van Laast is a director and choreographer whose work includes musicals such as Mamma Mia!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and films including Harry Potter and Beauty and the Beast.

Farooq Chaudhry is co-founder and producer of Akram Khan Company, former creative producer for English National Ballet and former Chair of Dance UK. Sujata Banerjee is a South Asian artist and a leading Kathak exponent and Artistic Director of Sujata Banerjee Dance Company.
