BBC Arts and One Dance UK has revealed details of the 14 commissioned artists who will create new films and interactive projects as part of Dance Passion 2022, a collaboration between BBC Arts and One Dance UK supported by Arts Council England.

Part of a BBC Dance Season, returning on BBC TV, radio, and digital platforms in early 2022, Dance Passion will feature a wide range of projects featuring established names and rising stars.

This announcement comes following an open call for funding launched in April 2021 aimed at UK-based professional and amateur dance companies, independent artists, choreographers, and associated technical partners based in dance education and dance medicine.

For a short film, New Zealand-born, Birmingham-based choreographer Corey Baker is devising an “action sequence” filmed in various locations. Further programming details will be announced in due course.

BBC Commissioning Executive for BBC Arts, Stephen James-Yeoman, said, “there is no better time than this to announce our commissions for Dance Passion, and to support new works, inspired and featuring new choreography and dance, thanks to the fruitful partnership with One Dance UK, supported by Arts Council England.

“The sector is slowly emerging from the worst time of crisis, but there is so much to be done still—and we hope that these new commissions can mark a new start for the many organisations and individuals on the scene, as we prepare for a full-blown celebration of UK dance as part of the BBC Dance Season in 2022.”
