The narcissistic yuppie psychopath Patrick Bateman of American Psycho is to be played by Matt Smith, currently the BBC's Doctor Who.
Other members of the ensemble cast include Ben Aldridge, Charlie Anson, Jonathan Bailey, Katie Brayben, Cassandra Compton, Holly Dale Spencer, Susannah Fielding, Simon Gregor, Holly James, Lucie Jones, Tom Kay, Gillian Kirkpatrick, Eugene McCoy and Hugh Skinner.
American Psycho, an Almeida Theatre–Headlong co-production, is a new musical thriller based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis. It has a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik.
The Almeida Theatre’s Artistic Director, Rupert Goold, will direct with musical direction from David Shrubsole; choreography is by Lynne Page and set design is by Es Devlin, who designed Chimerica.
American Psycho plays 3 December to 25 January. Audio-described performance and touch tours will be on 11 January. Captioned performances are on 10 and 18 January.
