Elementary as Holmes returns for Buxton panto

Fifth year in Buxton: James Holmes

James Holmes is to return to Buxton for a fifth year to play Ivana, one of the ugly sisters in the Opera House’s 2019 panto Cinderella.

Holmes is best known for his role as Clive the bar owner in the BBC TV series Miranda. He will make an earlier appearance in the Opera House studio in Tim Fountain’s dark comedy EastEndless on Friday 16 August.

Shannon Flynn will play the title role in Cinderella. She was Emily James in the BBC1 drama Waterloo Road and also played Lauren in Coronation Street.

Jamie Barwood will play the second ugly sister Melania. He has appeared in The Fully Monty and was the dame in a panto at the King’s Head Theatre, London.

Back for a third Christmas is Alasdair Baker. Earlier in 2019, he was in Tennessee Williams’s The Night of the Iguana at the Noël Coward Theatre. He will play Cinderella’s father Baron Hardup.

Ryan Bennett will be the Prince. His credits include an international tour of Jersey Boys and two Shakespearean roles for the Pop-up Globe.

Fairy Godmother Emily Juler has “extensive” stage experience including Jerry Springer the Opera, The Pirates of Penzance and Romeo and Juliet.

Other cast members include Ross Barbour as Buttons, Connor Hignell as the Prince’s assistant Dandini and Hannah Shackell as the understudy.

Buxton Opera House and CTP Pantomimes will stage Cinderella from Thursday 12 December until Wednesday 1 January 2020.
