For Dementia Action Week (17–23 May), English National Ballet has announced plans to support people whose lives are affected by dementia.

In partnership with Barchester Healthcare, the company will deliver an in-house professional development programme for staff and a range of dance and music focussed events and workshops for care home residents. In December 2020, residents and patients in more than 130 Barchester care homes took part in three Nutcracker themed virtual workshops.

Barchester staff will attend training sessions and help lead dance workshops for their residents and Barchester’s homes will be invited to join live events which include taking part in dance classes and hearing from the ENB Philharmonic, costume department and other artists of the company.

Barchester Healthcare’s CEO, Pete Calveley, said, “we are always looking at new ways to enhance our resident experience through partnerships and initiatives. We are delighted to build on our existing relationship with English National Ballet to bring our residents a whole host of unique virtual experiences, workshops and training sessions throughout what I am sure will be a hugely beneficial year-long programme of activity.”
