Unwrapped: artistic director Sarah Brigham will open up the rehearsal process at Derby Theatre

Derby Theatre has announced its autumn season which celebrates the theatre’s 40th anniversary and promises “an exciting theatrical ride for audiences and participants of all ages”.

As previously announced, the season will start with Paul Allen’s stage adaptation of Mark Herman’s film Brassed Off which runs from 18 September until 10 October.

There will be two home-grown productions for Christmas 2015: Cinderella, a “fun and feisty” re-telling of the classic story, in the main house from 4 December until 9 January, and The Elves and The Shoemakers in the Studio from 8 until 26 December.

Touring shows for the autumn include Derby company Oddsocks with a musical version of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing from 2 until 4 September, The Agatha Christie Company with And Then There Were None from 9 until 14 November and the stage adaptation of Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, direct from the West End, from 16 until 21 November.

For the first time Derby Theatre is to offer novices as well as professionals the opportunity to see the theatre experience in a different light in Theatre Unwrapped.

The Brassed Off production will involve Unwrap Rehearsals in which artistic director Sarah Brigham will take people through her process from day one of rehearsals, Unwrap Acting in which anyone can spend a week with Sarah Brigham to explore the text before she goes into rehearsals, Unwrap Technical, an introduction and insight into the ideas and processes relating to production and design, and Unwrap the Final Stages, an opportunity to join the technical rehearsal.

Full details of the autumn season can be viewed at the Derby Theatre web site.
