More than 40 performances will take place over 11 days in 30 venues and public spaces as Dance 4’s international festival of dance and performance, Nottdance, returns for its 24th year.

Paul Russ, chief executive of Dance4, said, “this is an exciting year for Nottdance, featuring unprecedented work from some of the world’s most stimulating and provocative artists. We’re starting the festival with new and previous works from choreographer and dance artist Rosemary Butcher.

“Nottdance has earned its international reputation among artists as a vital platform to present new ideas. For audiences this remains a festival that challenges perceptions while being playful and entertaining.”

One of the highlights will be Ultima Vez’s What the Body Does Not Remember which was first performed in 1987. It became known as a “dance version of punk”.

Rosemary Butcher will be holding an exhibition Memory in the Present Tense throughout the festival, celebrating her work from 1976 to the present day.

In a UK première, she will also be performing Secrets of the Open Sea/Test Pieces to audiences and holding discussions.

Further performances to look out for are Hetain Patel presenting his American Boy and Lucy Suggate’s Pilgrim, a physical journey through mystical soul scores created by electronic musician James Holden.

The Nottdance festival—produced by international dance organisation Dance4—will take place in venues including Nottingham Playhouse, Lakeside Arts, Nottingham Contemporary and Nottingham Trent University. There will also be a variety of work in free spaces including shopping centres, pubs and offices.

Nottdance will run from Thursday 5 March until Sunday 15 March. Further information is available at the Dance4 web site.
