Farrell joins Gatiss in A Christmas Carol

Nicholas Farrell will play Ebenezer Scrooge

Nicholas Farrell is to join the cast of Mark Gatiss’s new adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol which will premiere at Nottingham Playhouse before transferring to London’s Alexandra Palace.

Farrell will play Ebenezer Scrooge while Gatiss, who took the lead role in Alan Bennett’s The Madness of George III at Nottingham Playhouse in 2018, will play Jacob Marley.

Nottingham Playhouse artistic director Adam Penford will direct. Designer is Paul Wills. Lighting design is by Philip Gladwell, sound deign by Ella Wahlström, video design by Nina Dunn, movement direction by Georgina Lamb and composition by Tingying Dong. Matthew Forbes is the puppet director and Jasmine Teo is associate director.

A Christmas Carol will run at Nottingham Playhouse from Friday 29 October until Saturday 29 November. It then moves to Alexandra Palace from Friday 26 November until Sunday 9 January 2022.
