Kinky Boots comes to the West End Credit: Matthew Murphy

London's Adelphi Theatre will be home to the UK première of Kinky Boots, the musical based on the film of the same name and the true story of Charlie Price, the reluctant heir to a shoe factory.

The show which has a book written by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics Cyndi Lauper will start previewing on 21 August.

Fierstein is a four-time Tony Award-winner and the writer behind Newsies, Casa Valentina, Torch Song Trilogy and La Cage aux Folles as well as many other award winning and nominated works. He also has a career in film and on television.

Cyndi Lauper is a Grammy, Emmy and Award-winning recording artist; she won a Tony Award for the score of Kinky Boots and has written a New York Times best-selling autobiography, Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir.

Kinky Boots won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Musical, and the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. Jerry Mitchell will direct and provide choreography with musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Stephen Oremus.

No casting has been announced. Tickets are not yet on sale.
