‘Fresh’ version of A Christmas Carol in Derby

Neil Duffield’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol is the festive offering for 2014 at Derby Theatre.

The theatre’s artistic director Sarah Brigham who directs A Christmas Carol said, “we’ll be providing audiences of all ages with a fresh yet faithful, big, bold and magical version of Dickens’ classic tale.

“Expect a festive theatrical experience suitable for the whole family, traditional carols, original Christmas music, spectacular ghostly goings-on, the adorable Cratchitt family including Tiny Tim and, of course, Scrooge.”

Jim Barclay will play Ebenezer Scrooge. The actor, comedian, teacher, street theatre performer and voiceover artist was a member of the National Theatre Company for three years. His television appearances include Holby City, Doctors, New Tricks and 55 Degrees North.

Christopher Price will play Jacob Marley, Mr Fezziwig and other characters. He has appeared in two productions at Derby Theatre in 2014, Homer’s The Odyssey in which he played a multitude of roles including the mad and menacing Cyclops, and in Northern Stage's Catch 22.

Dan Willis will play Bob Cratchitt. He has performed in a range of roles in theatres across the UK including York Theatre Royal, Nottingham Playhouse, the Royal Exchange in Manchester and Birmingham REP.

Kate Robson-Stuart will be Mrs Cratchitt. Her list of credits in musical theatre includes Betty Blue Eyes at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester and she was LV in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch in 2013.

Esme Sears from Derby will play Belle and other characters while Adam Horvath who also hails from the city will be young Scrooge and Fred.

A Christmas Carol runs at Derby Theatre from Friday 5 December until Sunday 4 January 2015.
