David Essex, the original star of Godspell, will host the charity event that sees the show return to the West End for the first time in 42 years.

Essex, who found fame playing Jesus in the show's original production, will be joined on stage by Zoe Tyler (Loose Women, Over The Rainbow), Andy Abraham (The X Factor), Sarah Galbraith (The Phantom of The Opera) and current Les Misérables Marius, Rob Houchen.

The score, which includes songs "Day By Day", "Light of the World" and "Turn Back, O Man", will be played with the new orchestrations from the recent Broadway revival production.

Godspell was conceived by John-Michael Tebelak and has music and lyrics by Wicked's Stephen Schwartz. Make-A-Wish Foundation UK will benefit from this charity performance.

Russell Scott will conduct a 32-strong choir and a live band; Kenneth Avery Clark directs.

Godspell in Concert takes place on 19 May at Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London. For further information and booking visit the Godspell in Concert web site.
