A 150th birthday fundraising season for Hoxton Hall

British burlesque star Immodesty Blaize heads a line-up of fundraising events for November at East London’s Hoxton Hall.

Immodesty Blaize will be backed by pianist, singer and composer Rod Melvin, and the show will include performances from hula hoop artiste Marawa, the Urban Voices Collective choir and Flabbergast Theatre with their Boris and Sergey puppetry routine.

Later in the month a Vintage Variety Day features a vintage fair with a live band, DJ and tea dance and the Hitchcock Film Night will show a double bill of Frenzy and Psycho, but events kick off with music showcase MVMNT, which supports local music artists. The line-up for the closing comedy night event has not yet been announced.

Running concurrently through much of November is a free photography exhibition, Archive Imagining the East End, which documents East London's history.

Hayley White, Group Director, Hoxton Hall, said “Hoxton Hall has for 150 years been the home of variety and was integral to the start of popular culture.

"Back in the 1860s, Hoxton Hall stage would have seen a Victorian version of The X Factor or Britain's Got Talent, with open mic nights called Free and Easies—named so because they we free to come along to and easy to perform at.

"Over our history we have presented an array of talent, often those starting out; it is a delight to celebrate the history of the building which a diverse and stunning showcase of events presenting our past alongside our future ambitions for the space.”

Hoxton Varieties runs from 1 to 28 November. The fundraising initiative benefits the venue's restoration project; the Victorian Music Hall is one of only two remaining in London.
