Inaugural Tonic Awards - winners announced

At an awards ceremony hosted by Jenni Murray DBE, the winners for the inaugural Tonic Awards were announced.

The Awards recognise the work of women in theatre and the performing arts and are the initiative of Tonic Theatre which supports the industry in gender equality initiatives.

The winners of the inaugural awards are:

  • Rosemary Squire OBE, until recently co-owner and joint CEO of the Ambassador Theatre Group, theatre producers and operators of over 40 venues worldwide
  • Phyllida Lloyd, Harriet Walter DBE and Kate Pakenham for the all-female Shakespeare Trilogy
  • Emma Rice, for her first season as artistic director at Shakespeare’s Globe
  • Indhu Rubasingham MBE, artistic director of the Tricycle Theatre
  • Vicky Featherstone, the National Theatre of Scotland and Live Theatre for Our Ladies Of Perpetual Succour
  • Dawn Walton, artistic director of Eclipse Theatre, Britain’s principal black-led national touring company and creator of the company's Revolution Mix programme
  • Jenny Sealey, artistic director of Graeae Theatre Company championing disabled theatre makers
  • Anna Newell, for creative productions for marginalised audiences and those that have slower cognitive processing
  • Paule Constable, multi–award winning leading lighting designer.
